For the first time in 1955 literature and art events are held and organized by the municipality of lefkada where you can watch theatrical performances, concerts and important speeches with interesting topics. The international folklore festival was organized for the first time in 1962 and since then it continues until today with great success.

Each year in the middle of August dancing and music events are taking place with great effect to Greece and abroad. There is a parade from the main pedestrian area of Lefkada town and dancing groups give some performances.

In August the residents of Karia organize a revival of a traditional wedding, during which the bride is decorated and then the wedding procession takes place in the village square under the old plane trees.

At the end of August in the village of Ligia the celebration of the fish is organized with plenty of fish and a lot of dancing.

In the mountain village Fria in Sfakiotes the wine’s fest is organized with great success. There is plenty wine and fun that are enough to spend unforgettable moments.

Just above the famous village Eglouvi the major event takes place with great participation. Local people get water from wells and pour it in large cauldron where they boil the famous lentil. Later a great festivity with a lot of dancing follows.

In the town of Lefkada, a day of August, boats with musicians who sing cantatas sail in the channel spreading great melodies.
